This will be among my (and perhaps your) favorites. Its joyful, exuberant message is one that I have savored sharing with my young nieces and nephew. I get chills when I realize that by reading The Star Children, I'm being one of the lucky ones who gets to "race through the meadows and remind [others] to play!" Yes, the story will stimulate some questions, depending on your listeners' ages, and you will get to choose how to talk about its meaning. Isn't that part of the magic and beauty of children's books? The Star Children invites us to welcome others onto our lap, read to them and then share from our heart what is true for us. In its beauty and simplicity, this book is an essential for parents and teachers to share with young children, and for their own remembering.
In picking up The Star Children by Jill Yasmin Kaplan, I found myself drawn into a world of stunning, heavenly and figurative images, full of vibrant, soft and gentle colors painted by the author. That immediately drew my heart and soul in absorbing myself in this children's book. The author's own love of life, nature and children continues to also reflect deeply through the story. The pictures and words will be delightful and empowering to a child; the message will inspire smiles, maybe tears, and feelings of joyful hope in the parent, the aunt, the uncle, grandmother, grandfather, etc. Thank you to the author for reminding us of the power that exists beyond the physical eye and how children can naturally embody and express it.
